QEP – Visual Arts Guidelines – 205-209/ 225-237
What is so refreshing about the QEP visual arts guidelines compared to the other QEP guidelines, is that art allows children to make their own choices on how they wish to express themselves. In Math, English or Science, there are very few to no choices in the work that must be completed. Art is all about the individual child, being able to show their own identity on how they wish to create and display their art. Students are evaluated on all dimensions of art. This includes their own work they produce and appreciating the art of what others created.
Cross- Curricular Competencies/ Broad Areas of Learning
Cross- Curricular competencies ensure that students are able to take what they have learned in school and apply it to real world situations. These competencies cross over different subjects and classes. Broad areas of learning ensure the student is capable of caring for one’s self, being aware of their surroundings, being aware of media and the community around them. In school, it is important that students are not only learning “school related things”, they must also learn how to take responsibility for themselves in the outside world.
